These are three reflections which celebrate the place where the spirit rejoices in faith. In the first song, light, beauty and wonder in the outer elements of coming to church are welcomed. As the inward, personal gifts of healing and comfort become prominent in the experience of worship, we realize we are welcoming God. The second song has a familiar text by Whittier whose words may refer to the silent moments in any service of worship, or to calm moments within the spirit itself. Then, in the third song, ’Alleluia’ is sung to celebrate the place(s) where humans meet God.

Walker’s style is lyrical singing and independent accompaniments. The choir often sings in eight parts, but each line is accessible, so the level of difficulty is medium to medium advanced. This would be an excellent set for a music ministry appreciation Sunday when the choir would be given additional time- the length of each piece is three to four minutes for a total of ten and a half minutes- or as part of a concert. Each piece can be done independently as anthems, also.

Welcome to the House of the Lord starts with the outer elements, coming into the church. Welcome light, welcome beauty, welcome wonder. The focus then turns inward, to the personal gifts of healing and comfort. And, as we welcome the many aspects of faith, we realize that, one blessing at a time, we are welcoming God!
