This Good Friday anthem was written in 1997 for a large festival choir, though it can be used effectively with small choirs as well. The poignant and little-known text was written in 1975 by Eliza Sibbald Alderson, sister of the celebrated minister and composer John Bacchus Dykes. Like many of her hymns and poetry this text was written at her brother's request, and reflects on the sufferings of Christ.
