Inspired by a Gregorian antiphon and psalm tone, the Nunc dimittis is a moving a cappella work composed in memory of Jeanne Crumley Lindemann, a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University. At the time of her death from cancer in December 2000, she was minister of music at Trinity Lutheran Church, Newport News, VA. A lush SATB texture expands the doxology into a rich, yet tempered, eight-voice texture. The reprise of the opening theme includes a captivating moment for SSAT soloists before the work resolves. The final fermata on "word" is a reminder that church musicians find their fulfillment in proclaiming God's Word through music.
